Good Practice Guides
We produce accessible teacher-friendly guides based on the outcomes of our strongest research projects. Our two published booklets can be found below.
- Play-based learning in Year 1: this booklet, due to be published in December 2020, explores the benefits of introducing play-based learning into Year 1 classrooms, as well as practical strategies and considerations for Year 1 teachers and senior leaders. Read about this project in Impact, The Chartered College of Teaching magazine.
- Supporting SEND pupils in mathematics: this booklet, due to be published in January 2021, shares a range of practical strategies used by classteachers in special and mainstream schools to enable pupils with SEND to access mathematics teaching, achieving success and gaining confidence.
- Using drama in the primary curriculum: this booklet, due to be published in February 2021, shares findings from the All The School’s A Stage project, run in partnership with The Globe Theatre. The project helped teachers use drama across the curriculum to improve speaking, listening and writing and support pupils to understand challenging texts. The booklet explores some of the strategies, and offers guidance for teachers and senior leaders on embedding drama across the curriculum.
- Supporting ethnic minority teachers: this booklet, due to be published in March 2021, will draw on the results of our Stepping Into Leadership programme, and three years of participants feedback, and should help senior leaders understand the challenges for ethnic minority teachers moving into leadership roles, as well as the best ways to support leadership progression.
